Susan Farist Butler has been concerned about climate for just about her whole life. In addition to her professional activities, she has been very active with many non-profits, working on climate action. She was President of Green Decade/Cambridge, a founding Treasurer of the Home Energy Efficiency Team, active on the Massachusetts Sierra Club Energy Committee (founding member), Executive Committee and Faith Committee. Sue serves on the boards of Biodiversity for a Livable Climate and Eastie Farm. She is Chair of the Committee for Martin House Farm, a property of the National Society of the colonial Dames.
Recently Sue has worked as a Visiting Scholar at Harvard Divinity School in the area of Climate and Morality. Sue's professional work includes a PhD in Mathematical Psychology and Behavioral Economics. Working with Ray Nickerson, a dissertation committee member, they founded The Laboratory for Probabilistic Reasoning in the Psychology Department at Tufts. Sue is also a Nurse Clinical Specialist, who practiced Advanced Practice Nursing to cover shortfalls when grant funding was scarce. She continues to write, and illustrate her writing with her paintings to communicate about the climate challenge we face. Her next paper, Eco-restoration and Regeneration as Decolonization, will be presented at the Harvard Divinity School program for the Evolution in Spirituality Conference, Spiritualities in Colonial and Decolonial Contexts. April 2024.
